HL-L5100DN brother Black-and-White Laser Printer Review

The Brother HL-5100DN monochrome laser printer is a financial business laser printer focused on raw throughput. The Brother HL-5100DN is, a first-class financial laser printer with strong print quality, outstanding print speeds for its speed, and support for useful features such as duplex printing (side printing).

It’s also the eco-friendly and cost-effective way to Energy Star certification and high-yield toner cartridges. For a unique version to consider, check out our HP Laserjet Monochrome -sided PA1A review.

Accumulating Print Speed

Speed is the Brother HL-5100DN’s hallmark of fame. Its rated speed is forty-two pages per minute, and it holds up well when printing single-sided text files, and holds up reasonably well in more complex prints; much faster than the Epson WorkForce ET-750 or the Brother MFC-L3770CDW laser printer, which run slowly for a very short time, although the print quality is much worse.

It’s slightly faster than Brother’s own MMFCL2750DW, though this speed difference is negligible in the real world, and the print quality is worse, which makes sense, considering it’s a cheap printer.

Best HL-L5100DNprint quality

Average quality on the Brother HL-5100DN. Text looks accurate at large sizes but falls off on smaller prints, while image quality is decent at the best of times.

The Canon imageCLASS MF5DW provides much better plain text quality (especially the smaller fonts) and much better image quality.

It struggles with gradients but prints much nicer photos than what Brother ships with. Unless you’re printing small fonts, this is a fine printer for printing text, but it lacks the capacity to produce finer details.

Operational Cost Efficiency

At 1.8¢ per web page, the Brother HL-5100DN is pretty efficient. It’s on average cheaper to run than its higher-end contemporaries, and its relatively low running cost makes it a very strong budget option.

The toner is affordable to replace, the cost is consistent with low web pages, and the price is reasonable. Low-cost ink replacement is best, especially if you notice your printer is missing a line.

Advanced Features Existing In Printers

Ethernet capability, an LCD display, and a range of protection functions make the Brother HL-5100DN a feature-rich printer. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have the potential to connect with wi-fi networks; You’ll have to spend a little more to get a slightly more expensive SKU in the form of the Brother HL-L5200DW.

The loss of Wi-Fi is, pretty forgivable at this low-speed point, though it would be nice to have the option to feature a wi-fi USB dongle or something to showcase Wi-Fi capabilities while not having to step up as much as higher-yielding SKUs.

Performance Value

Value is the Brother HL-5100DN’s bread and butter. It’s available at very low rates, and not using those low rates to obfuscate long-term inflated costs. The toner is affordable and long-lasting, making the upfront cost and long-term cost of the Brother HL-5100DN very low.

Although this sacrificed a lot, it was the quality for printing maximum textual content, and now it is no longer completely unusable for printing graphics.

The Brother HL-5100DN is a printer with mediocre prints and very exceptional quality. Upfront costs can be very reasonable, and Brother doesn’t give you a dime for a replacement toner, making it a great bargain with good but not great prints.

It’s unfortunate that it struggles with very small text, and it’s puzzling why Brother eschews wi-fi networks altogether without stepping up to a more expensive unit. But despite its flaws, it’s a very compelling delivery just through the distinctive features of its hefty payday.

If ethernet is the option for you, or you can plug it directly into your computer, it’s a great buy that will please your wallet any time.
